Espirit De Corps - Jessie Square - Dan Kiley

Redesign of Jessie Square

Jessie Square is a small urban square lost within its surroundings. Surrounded by dozens of styles of architecture and spatial use, the park is quintessentially San Franciscan in this way. It was determined that the space was necessary to be multi-functional and serve passer-throughs, residents of the Four Seasons condominiums, a Catholic Church, and the Museum of Contemporary Jewish Art, as well as numerous other hotels and retail outlets. In conclusion it was determined that this was a transitory space, and the design was geared to providing a dynamic environment for people to spend up to an hour in.

Inspired by the modern landscape architect Dan Kiley and his Fountain Place, the site features a bouquet of deciduous trees, plenty of seating, and ephemeral elements like moving water and fountains to create an airy yet intimate and recognizable space.
