Terrace of Light - Joseph Conrad Square - Redesign
Redesign Joseph Conrad Square
Joseph Conrad Square was determined to be a dark and decrepit park, loved by few and avoided by many. This design reverses the stigma attached to the park by closing a street for pedestrians only, connecting the park directly to storefronts, and opening up the design to allow visitors more opportunities to sit in the new Urban Plaza. The triangular nature was determined to be a desirable motif and was carried through most design elements throughout the park, including the fountain, benches, planters, lighting, etc.
This space succeeds most at connecting the Cannery building at the end of Columbus Ave to the views of the financial district with the TransAmerica Pyramid being the most prominent landmark. This allows tourists and visitors to gain a bearing and a fundamental meeting place in the Fishermans Wharf District.
